How to Regulate Your Nervous System

Why “Just Relax” Doesn’t Work
The instruction to simply calm down fails for a specific, structural reason: the parts of your brain running the sympathetic response, the amygdala, the HPA axis, don’t take instructions from the part of your brain doing the instructing.
